24K Gold Rate in Islamabad — the local picture
Islamabad has the smallest major-city gold trade in Pakistan and almost no wholesale layer — most stock arrives from Rawalpindi and Lahore. The retail trade sits in Blue Area and the sector markets, particularly Jinnah Super. Fewer competing shops means margins stay a little wider than in Pindi twenty minutes away.

Rawa and TT-bar: two different 24 karat prices
Pakistani sarafa markets quote two distinct 24 carat products, and most rate sites publish only one of them without saying which. If you are comparing quotes, this is the first thing to establish.
- Rawa — locally melted gold, usually of scrap origin. This is the everyday retail benchmark and what "the gold rate" normally means in conversation.
- TT-bar (also written "pcs") — imported tola bars with certified weight and assayed purity. They trade at a premium for that assurance and for the import cost behind them.

The spread is what a dealer charges for standing on both sides of the trade. Buying and immediately selling back the same tola costs you Rs 939 before anything else happens — which is why gold is a holding, not a trade, at retail.

Why 24K is not used for jewellery
Gold is one of the softest metals in commercial use. Pure 24 carat can be marked with a fingernail, bends under hand pressure, and will not hold a claw setting around a stone. A 24 carat ring worn daily loses its shape within months.
That is why jewellery is alloyed. Adding roughly 8% copper and silver produces 22 carat, which is hard enough to survive normal wear while staying recognisably gold. It is not adulteration — it is the reason wearable gold jewellery exists at all.
The price difference is exactly the metal that is not there. In Islamabad today, 24 carat is Rs 463,968 per tola against Rs 425,304 for 22 carat — a gap of Rs 38,664, or 8.33%.

Note the 22 carat figure: 22 ÷ 24 is 91.67%, and the 916 hallmark is that number rounded down for stamping. Pricing with 91.60% instead of 91.67% understates a tola by around Rs 311 — small, but wrong, and a surprising number of sites do it.
Buying 24K in Islamabad
- Coins and bars, not ornaments. If the goal is holding value, buy the form that carries no making charge. You recover close to full metal value on resale.
- Ask whether it is rawa or TT-bar before comparing any two quotes. The gap is real and it is not a discount.
- Get the assay in writing. Weight, purity and the rate applied should all appear on the invoice — that document is what protects your resale value.
- Check the buyback policy before you buy. Some dealers repurchase at full metal value; others deduct for refining. Ask first, not later.
- Do not confuse the bid and the ask. The rate you buy at and the rate you sell at are not the same number, and the difference is on this page.
